The First Tee continues to introduce enrichment programs such as the school golf program. Golfers learn golf rules and etiquette as well as the fundamentals, the Nine Core Values and the Nine Health Habits. As a YMCA, these locations offer The First Tee life skills and golf certification program, summer camps, family golf time and school programs. The First Tee philosophy and programming are maintained and practiced at each of these locations, without exception. The First Tee of Hampton Roads has also teamed up the YMCA and the following golf courses to provide these lessons on a broader scale:Įach of these locations offers a wide range of programs for all ages and skill levels. One of The First Tee’s recent additions to their list of programs includes their collaboration with the Annika Foundation in creating The Nine Habits – a comprehensive program that focuses on the physical, social and emotional development of each student. The First Tee has been successful in providing safe places with quality youth programs and excellent role models through quality instructors. Additional benefits to these lessons include academic improvement and a new found appreciation and respect for diversity. By learning the etiquette of golf while developing their social skills, junior golfers benefit from character-building as well as taking away live lessons that will serve them well in their daily lives as young adults. Along with those lessons, they will learn about such core values as integrity, honesty, and sportsmanship, responsibility, respect, confidence, judgment, perseverance and courtesy. The Nine Core Values program focuses on lessons that will help develop social skills and self-confidence in students. There programs are geared to youth development they simply utilize the game of golf as their medium to teach our youth extraordinary life lessons through their Nine Core Values approach. Their non-traditional philosophy of teaching the child as a whole has set them apart from their competitors. The national championships of the Drive, Chip and Putt competition will tee off the morning of April 3 and will air live on The Golf Channel.The First Tee programs across the US score as some of the best nationwide. "I'm just trying to do the best I can and win." Jordin just plans to keep her approach the same. The Red Mill Elementary School student has a chance to shine on national television and take home a championship. ![]() "The first two times I didn't quite make it to Augusta, but then this next time I made it," Jordin noted. After victories in local, sub-regional and regional championships, she is one of just 80 competitors from around the country who will take part in the Drive, Chip and Putt national championship at Augusta National Golf Club, site of The Masters. Next month Jordin will find herself on the national stage. "I try my best to stay focused and do my best and just try to play a good round and then see what happens," she said of her approach. She's shot a 69 on an 18-hole course and says she typically works on her game five days per week. Her work ethic and focus resembles that of a tour professional, rather than a grade-school student. Jordin has won nearly 60 championships during her young career. "I started getting really into it and I thought I could actually do a lot more and it could go far." "I think seven because I won my first state championship and that was the first big thing that happened," Jordin recalled. She decided to give it a try and, as it turns out, discovered that she was pretty good at the sport. The 11-year old Virginia Beach resident became interested in golf while watching her brother play back when she was just six years old.
